The Game

THE GAME

The game, which can be inserted by right among the so-called “serious games”, or the latest generation of digital games designed for educational purposes in the context of adult education with a view to lifelong learning and, even more specifically, of Learning by doing, will be a web app, downloadable offline on smartphone or PC, through which any educator can use the technique of autobiographical writing in an easy and fun way, as a useful path in therapeutic, rehabilitative and recreational programs. It should be emphasized that playful activity in the autobiographical field represents a significant training device for creating narratives of stories through “ludo biography” educational activities (Staccioli, 2010).

We have identified our target group in the over 60s precisely because of the nature of the intellectual product which, as regards the autobiographical approach, allows us to draw on a life rich in experience. Particularly interesting will be the use of the tool with patients with Alzheimer’s or senile dementia for whom this type of cognitive stimulus can become an integral part of a diagnostic / therapeutic path and be useful for maintaining residual capacities.

The game will be designed in such a way that it can be used both individually and in groups, without any limitation in the number of participants: the “players” will be offered countless emotional stimuli in the form of images, sounds and smells, which will turn into “stories” . Under the guidance of the operator, each stimulus can be “told” to the group, creating empathy and sharing of experiences. Each written or recorded piece will then be placed by the system on a chronological scale and will become an important part of a story, an autobiography, downloadable in pdf format. The project involves the creation of a version accessible to the blind, where the stimuli will be heard by the players and their history will be recorded and one for the deaf, where all the sound cards will be replaced by images.
